The mechanic looks at it
Posted on 06/22/05

I took car to a mechanic that was suggested by several co-workers to get a general once over to determine if I bought a car that was not going to blow up the next time it was fired up. He looked at it and let me know that the wiring under the dash looks like some one attacked it with an ax. He also pointed out the electrical fire that occurred in the engine compartment. After spending the day with the car, he gave it back to me and charged me nothing (he was feeling ill and was going to not be able to work on the car for several days) and told me to try to figure out why its hard to start. I took a good look at the wiring in the engine compartment and the loom is bubbled up, along with the wire leading from the coil/dizzy all the way to the battery and around the other side of the engine compartment to the left rear taillight. The wire loom is melted together. Uh... Wow, I wish I saw this before...

I finally found one
Posted on 06/20/05

I just picked up car from the seller, and drove the beast the 30+ miles home. It drove great. However, it had some weird electrical issues and every once in a while a squeak would emanate from the front left corner of the bus. The electrical issues revealed themselves after filling the tank and having the gauge only read a half a tank, and when pulling the turnsignal switch, the tank would read full... huh. Also, the gas gauge and the warning lights would intermittently turn off. The squeak was a little weird. It was almost under my left foot while I was driving along. Regardless of the bumps in the road, or turning, or anything else I could think of, it would "squeak!" As I write this it may be one of the buzzers (open door, lights on, etc) firing off when a wire wiggled in the dash. But that will have to wait until another day.
